The Department of Veterans'' Affairs (VA) has outlined a five-year plan to end Veteran homelessness. In order to make this goal a reality, the VA works closely with the Department of Housing and Urban Development and has a variety of programs specifically targeted toward homeless and at-risk Veterans.
The incumbent serves as Housing and Urban Development (HUD) VA Supportive Housing (VASH) HUD/VASH Case Manager in the Health Care for Homeless Veterans (HCHV) Program with Behavior Health Services in Wichita, Kansas providing clinical case management to Veterans who may have mental health disorders and/or substance use disorders who are engaged in the HUD/VASH program. Serves as a practictioner in this capacity at the facility and provides direct patient care services in this program area.
The HUD/VASH Social Worker''s primary responsibilities include providing clinical case management services to Veterans who meet the definition of homeless and chronic homelessness. The HUD-VASH Social Worker must be capable of working with various community providers and apartment managers in communities where HUD/VASH vouchers have been allocated for homeless Veterans. The HUD/VASH Social Worker should be familiar with the following models and approaches to assist Veterans with accessing treatment and maintaining permanent housing: housing first, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and other techniques used in housing complex and high need Veterans. Experience working with homeless individuals, individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, as well as having case management experience is highly desirable.
The HUD/VASH Case Manager is responsible for (but not limited to):
Conducting psychosocial assessments and/or Mental Health assessments.
Developing treatment plans in collaboration with the Veteran, family and the interdisciplinary treatment team
Frequent contact with Veterans in their homes and at the VA
Communication with HUD Public Housing Authority staff to assist with acquiring a voucher and completing the lease agreement
Assistance with money management, applying for financial assistance, skill development, apartment search planning, and providing other functional assistance
Coordinating community-based services, including information and referral for additional services from other VA's, other government and community agency programs
Identifying high risk patients and providing clinical case management services
Establishing and maintaining effective therapeutic relationships with Veterans and their families
Providing consultation services to other staff regarding the psychosocial needs of Veterans and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and adherence to treatment plans
Documenting required information in the computerized Veterans record and national reporting databases for the program
Incumbent must drive and have a valid driver license
BASIC REQUIREMENTS for all grade levels:

English Language Proficiency
Masters degree in Social Work, fully accredited by the Counsel on Social Work Education (CSWE)
Licensure or Certification by a state to independetnly practice at the Masters degree level.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-9: Must meet all basic requirements.
GS-11: In addition to meeting all basic requirements, applicants must possess a minimum of 1 year of professional social work experience, equivalent to the next lower grade level, under qualified social work supervision. This experience must have been in a clinical setting and must have demonstrated the potential to perform advanced assignments independently. _NON-QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE_: Clinical social work experience obtained prior to completion of the requirements for a Master's Degree in Social Work does not satisfy this requirement. NOTE: _ A clinical setting is a medical center, clinic (medical or psychiatric), a residential treatment center, or any other type of facility where social work participates in collaborative treatment and is identified with the medical profession._

Physical Requirements: The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing; walking; recurring bending, and/or crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting (up to 50 pounds) or similar activities to assist veterans with moving. Some of the work may be sedentary and require computer usage during interview processes, therapy sessions, and/or facility/community meeting/training.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
