The CGI Specialist assist in identifying armed violent criminals and members of violent gangs and criminal organizations who are involved in shootings, violent criminal activity, or firearms trafficking which require investigationSpecialists are needed to support NIBIN sites with the timely entry of ballistic evidence into NIBIN and, on the back end, assist in pooling intelligence across NIBIN results and other sources to quickly prepare leads for investigatorsSpecialist are required to perform a series of duties that include analyzing, drafting reports, and sharing information to assist colleagues in development of crime gun intelligence; correctly identifying and tracing firearms through the ATF e-Trace system; utilizing NESS for daily entry of local Record Management System (RMS) event information associated with ballistic evidence entered into NIBIN; reviewing results; and reporting on success storiesWork Location:
Wichita, KS (Center of Excellence) Position Duties:
Along with all qualifications of the CGI Specialist Level I and II, the CGIS Specialist shall have the experience and ability to provide analytics and research on gun intelligence specific to firearm related violent crimePlease note, a PhD is desiredCandidates shall have experience and ability to perform the following:
o Assist in data collection.
o Provide support through research projects (short-term and long-term) for ATF's CGI Center of Excellenceo Provide support to the Crime Gun Intelligence Governing Board such as, Academic Research Subcommitteeo Coordinate collection of crime gun intelligence from surrounding agencies.
o Coordinate and conduct presentations and training to agency officials.
o Provide support by creating and presenting research training for the National Crime Gun Intelligence Center of Excellence, such as Chiefs of Police Academy and other forums.
o Utilize crime gun intelligence to identify national and regional trends and patterns; merge NIBIN hits, tracing results, multiple sales, NICS and local intelligence to identify high value targets.
o Distribute crime gun intelligence to the proper authorities.
o Coordinate the results from crime gun intelligence with:
o ATF Field Divisions - Field Intelligence Groups.
o Local law enforcement intelligence.
o Designated authorities.
o Assist in presentations that are hosted or coordinated through the National Crime Gun Intelligence Center of Excellenceo Provide liaison support outside the office as required.
o Understand NIBIN MROS Compliance and Audits and use information to formulate stats / best practices.
o Utilize NESS data-driven research concepts for internal and external academic research opportunities
Experience:
It is preferred that candidates have a minimum of five (5) years investigative experience with local, State, or Federal law enforcementThey must possess the ability to work with and coordinate the efforts of local, State, and Federal law enforcement; to plan and complete complex projects and present those plans and projects to a group; and to identify and overcome obstacles to those plansEducation:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
