Background
Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or conflict. One aspect of the IRC is to provide assistance to refugees resettling in the United States. The IRC opened an office in Wichita in December 2011 and a sub-office in Garden City in 2014, to provide Reception and Placement services to newly arrived refugees. The offices currently resettle approximately 400 refugees per year and provides numerous program services to assist the refugee from their arrival through citizenship.
Job Overview
IRC is looking for an ambitious, outgoing professional to support our growing development team. The Development Specialist will ensure the provision of services for IRC Clients to attain deeper community integration and stronger economic well-being through community outreach and ongoing fundraising efforts. This position is integral to the Development department and furthering the mission of IRC to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future.
The Development Specialist will work closely with the Development Manager and Volunteer and External Relations Coordinator to increase the IRCs visibility in the community, build stronger programs that support direct and indirect client service provision, and fundraise. S/he will develop a fundraising strategy and implementation plan in collaboration with the senior management team in Wichita and national Development team in New York, to build a strong donor base for the organization of small to mid-level donors. This work will include planning, executing, and evaluating donor acquisition campaigns, effectively communicating on an ongoing basis with existing donors and prospective donors, managing the organization's social media presences to grow brand awareness, and administering donor record keeping.
Success in this role includes a thorough understanding of the organization's mission and conveying that mission in a compelling way to individuals and audiences of prospective supporters. Donor acquisition, donor retention, and growth of donor investment will be instrumental in measuring performance.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Community Outreach & External Relations
Collaborate with the Volunteer and External Relations Coordinator and development team to create and maintain a community asset map of the Wichita community of past, present and potential donors, increase the IRC's visibility within the community, and pinpoint potential resources in the community to increase the IRC's referral network;
Create annual development plans in collaboration with the senior management team and national development team;
Actively manage and participate in the stewardship and recognition of donors;
Develop and produce communications materials, including pieces for social media, HQ newsletters, program brochures and information materials for partner organizations, prospective volunteers and clients.
Conduct outreach and represent the IRC at various networking activities to recruit and educate potential donors, volunteers and constituents.
Fund Development
Identify, research and analyze funding opportunities in line with IRC's mission and goals;
Implement a strategy linked to the fundraising and development plans to solicit new sources of unrestricted and private cash funding through the submission of requests for funding and donor cultivation;
Create and maintain a donor database and calendar of funding opportunities;
Collaborate with the Volunteer and External Relations Coordinator to identify new ways to cultivate individual, group, and corporate sponsorships;
Identify cultivate and sustain individual donors through mailings face-to-face donor cultivation meetings, community engagement opportunities, and other means as deemed necessary;
Coordinate with the team to effectively manage and execute all assigned fundraising events;
Assist with direct appeal mailings, including mid-year and end of year appeals.
Requirements
Proven experience fundraising within the Wichita community;
Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, experience in lieu will be considered;
Demonstrated success in proposal development and fundraising;
Proven organizational skills in a complex, multi-tasking environment;
Outcome driven work style, establishing clear expectations and ongoing measurement of performance toward achieving targeted outcomes;
Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, to work independently as well as in a team;
Excellent Microsoft Office skills and ability to learn new computer applications rapidly;
Ability to work some evening and weekend hours as required is necessary;
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with current and prospective in-kind donors and volunteers, partner agencies, multi-cultural clients and colleagues on all levels;
Proven experience managing social media beyond a basic level;
Valid driver's license and reliable access to an insured vehicle.

Supervisor: Development Manager
Working Environment: Routine business hours Monday-Friday from the Wichita office. Expected to attend community events, special events, and other activities as assigned. Will be expected to work occasional weekend and evening hours.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
