Registered Nurse - Nurse Educator

The Nurse Educator is organizationally aligned under the Associate Chief Nurse of Education/Designated Learning Officer, and is responsible for the assessment, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs for the development of staff. Educational programs may include in-services, orientation, continuing education, annual reviews, skills certification, and staff development. The Nurse Educator is responsible to ensure that nursing staff receives adequate orientation and staff development activities to facilitate compliance with patient care standards. The Nurse Educator assumes accountability to include classroom instruction, clinical teaching, collaboration, and will act as c clinical consultant and resource person to the nursing staff. The Nurse Educator also assists in the design, implementation, and evaluation of other Nursing Service and Medical Center Programs, policies, and procedures while serving on projects and committees, as assigned. This position works collaboratively with unit managers in assessing, developing, and maintaining staff's competencies to ensure provision of quality nursing care. They also provides consultation and education to medical center staff in areas such as equipment, mandatory reviews, BLS/ALS, orientation, cross training and continuing education. This position demonstrates leadership through developing and coordinating programs to improve quality of care and organizational processes. This position may include other clinical or administrative assignments necessary to meet the mission of the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center, including all CBOCs and satellite buildings. This position potentially requires flexibility in schedule and assignments, as this is a 24/7 facility. The incumbent must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational and ethnic backgrounds. Incumbent must be able to work cooperatively as a member of a team in all assignments. The Nurse Educator demonstrates excellent customer service principles in all aspects of work and is self-motivated in the pursuit of meeting professional work standards. Basic Life Support is required. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
