Registered Nurse - Office of Community Care
The Office of Community Care (OCC) RN is a professional who manages and coordinates care for a panel of patients with a variety of medical conditions and specialty needs in the outpatient and inpatient settings. This individual is to assure care is facilitated and delivered timely, appropriate, cost effective and in accordance with established standards, hospital policies and procedures. Moreover, care provided is to be consistent with the plan other healthcare providers have ordered while decreasing fragmentation and duplication of care, thereby enhancing quality of care provided to the veteran and improving veteran satisfaction. The OCC RN is responsible to maintain performance measures as established by Central Office as well as ensuring the timeliness of scheduling and tracking to document completion of care. The RN will work closely with case managers and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal services are provided. Basic Requirements:

The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work is located in an office setting and involves everyday risks or discomfort that require normal safety precautions typical of any office setting with periods of prolonged sitting or standing. Employee must be able to view and read printed material as well as information on the computer screen. Additionally, must have the manual dexterity to communicate efficiently via keyboarding skills. Occasionally, employee may be asked to lift and/or move 25 pounds' short distances. The position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and ability to concisely communicate to a variety of individuals.
